Social bookmarking websites are a resource for Internet users to share their favorite websites. Not only is it a tool for sharing, but also to manage and organize your favorite websites online – a lot like your "favorites" folder on your browser. That being said, this process offers a huge advantage for SEO as well as article, blog, and video promotion. Everytime you share a link for your article on Ezine, or your blog post, you are generating backlinks that help push up your ranking in search engines.

is a good tool to submit to multiple bookmarking sites and it is free. I have yet to use socialmarker...anyone else have some favorites, or use socialmarker?

Social Bookmark sites are great ways to get your webpages index, as well as updating the search engines of any major changes.
Unfortunately the boat has left the harbour when it comes to bookmark sites been the best traffic/link building system.

Like directories Search engines have down graded the value related to these links. The only advantage that social bookmark site have is when multiple accounts are bookmarking a website.

The 8 sites you listed are by far the best for getting your website indexed by Google and Yahoo (I have no idea how Bing looks on these).

Stumbleupon and Technorai are still the best for generating traffic. Squidoo len's although still of great use have slowly begun to drop in page placement. Although If the content is unique and worth reading they will still rank well. (as with any website)

Social bookmarking is a good way to create quality backlinks.

I've tried Onlywire in the past, but they seem to have a lot of errors when submitting.

I know that by using a free service, I've no right to complain, but just wondering how socialmarker is as far as errors submitting.

And btw, I wasn't really complaining, just stating a fact! lol

Social bookmarking is a small part of SEO work. It can bring you quick but very useless traffic. If the key is to show traffic stats and nothing else, social bookmarking can do that. If you are looking to make a successful long term site, of course you need to do some quality SEO.

From my experience, social bookmarking has a conversion rate of much lower than 1%. Most is click through traffic at best and normally very untreated. It can increase links (if they offer do follow), which help in SEO and it can help build traffic stats from sites like Alexa. However, those alone will not sustain a website.

i think, bmd is the best one around here and yes onlywire is goot to but the y have very limited no. of sites to bookmark

I appreciate your words that “Social bookmarking is a small part of SEO work”. But this small part plays a great role in the field of traffic and ranking. I have tried it so many times to get positive results in short time duration.

Personally I've used both Onlywire and Socialmarker as a way to submit my social bookmarks quicker than I normally would.

Out of the sites its submits too, Ive had most success with Digg and Reditt. I've found that an intriguing headline gets plenty of clicks on Digg, but as always your contents has to be decent if you want to make anything out of the traffic.

Recently I simply use social bookmarks as a way of getting pages indexed and getting a few backlinks.

Social bookmarking sites are good way to build some links and that is all. But, if you want to be at the top you know how important are quality backlinks.
On the other hand that is just one part of seo "art" . Personally I add every my site to couple of hundreds social bookmarking sites (you can easy find lists of bookmarking sites with search on Google). And from most of these sites you 'll get only 1 backlink (except few great such as digg and propeller,... - this sites really rocks).

social marking is not a key to SEO how ever it helps getting good SERPS ranking

Squidoo gets abused so much, I wonder if it has any value on search engines anymore.

For any social bookmarking service worthwhile, this is useless. The value is not in the submission, but in getting voted to the front page (many more links, usually DoFollow, more people see it and might blog about it, etc.) Also, created automated accounts is clearly against the TOS of most of these websites, if not all of them.

Here is what I found with this whole Social Web 2.0 experience.

I developed a tool that creates automatic backlinks for blog post, and what we found is not so much are these types of sites good for SEO.

But instead what we are finding out these sites are better for driving visitors from the Web 2.0 properties without Google

Every time we experience an issue with the tool I get a flurry of emails pointing out as a result of this little hiccup of the decreased constant submission of post to Web 2.0 properties has decreased the amount of unique visitors to their websites.

So on the flip side with my observations and test using Web 2.0 to get your message out is a traffic generator 1st then aids in your profile to Google for building authority about your Website.

Totally surprise me because the original intention was using Web 2.0 for backlinks.

Social bookmarking is a great way to build backlinks for your website and you will gain traffic for your site while if you want to improve your SERP results for the site, than you need to implement the OPR for the site well. I agree with Lexxmarzia that if the site content is well and well optimized it is very easy improve the results of your site.
