I personally use a private server and Hostgator for hosting.

For domains, I use GoDaddy and Namecheap.

Hostgator would fit your requirements of having email accounts, space and support.

I would recommend doing up your website in Wordpress even if you are not blogging.

Let me know if you need any help.

In support of Fendi's recommendation of HostGator. I support his recommendation. I had some pretty severe hosting problems at one point.

Now, a few of the sites I own are hosted at Hostgator. Ever since I started using Hostgator I've never had a problem with a host again. Also, they do have very good support..generally very fast to respond if you have any questions.

As far as Domain names. I use Dynadot. With the exception of one domain which was purchased for me, all of them are registered at Dynadot. They are a very professional and reliable service.

I'm afraid I can not support people's recommendation of GoDaddy though. Although, they are the most popular registrar of domains on the Internet, I have heard of "marketers" especially having problems with Hostgator. Most notably, Mike Filsaime had many problems with GoDaddy apparently. Not to say everybody would, but, I do know I read a horror story that Mike had with them...they would not release one of his domains to him apparently when he wanted to switch or something along those lines.

Sure, they are popular...but, it doesn't necessarily mean you won't end up with a problem down the road.

    Hope that helps..

Should have said "Go Daddy" in that section...

Davin, the probably reasons Mike had problems with GoDaddy was he was accused of 'spam' from members of his list who probably followed his domain's registrar and sent a spam abuse complaint hence the problem.

If you are doing niche sites or ecommerce stores, I don't think GoDaddy would pose a problem though.

The reason I use Namecheap is because of it's cleaner interface. Newbies may get swamped with GoDaddy's numerous marketing upsells.

Hostgator has been reliable and their 1st level support includes "LIVE Chat" and their tech support is fast as well.

Chosing a domain with a hosting package to some degree depends on where your based. As you are more likely than not to use one provider for both D and H, I would not choose a US based provider unless you are based in the US time zone. I started my business off with service provision from both NameCheap and GoDaddy, both cheap, but being in the UK, we have really significant slowage problems when US came on line.

I know Holly favours Blue Host.

Yeah, that could be Fendi. I'm not really sure. I'd just heard that about Mike through The Seven Figure Code, I believe it was...warning people to stay "clear".

Since we are on the subject....a warning to all. Don't touch the hosting company Vodahost. I had so many problems with them, it's absurd. It's bringing up bad vibes again..just thinking about it...

    Cheers

with their cpanel hosting. They're fairly cheap and pretty reliable. Whenever there has been a problem (every host does - no matter what they say noone is 100% perfect) they've always resolved it very quickly. I personally use them for all my sites. Every account you sign up for, i think you get a free domain too.

Otherwise for domains i use either godaddy or namecheap as recommended above.

    About Kevin's recommendation...

Where you're based it's quite important when it comes to decide which provider to choose.

Talk with peolple in your area and ask which provider worked better with them.

What's everybody's take on Blue Host?

    Holly favors it greatly.

Is it better to use the site builder of hosting companies or is it still a plus going traditional with Dreamweaver / Coffee Cup?

If Holly rates it....that's good enough for me. Seems like we have quite a few people who've struggled with hosting.....need to give that one some serious thought for some more indepth contributions.

By the way....I really like that Avatar.

as ussual doing some research is the best we can do.

I'm loooking for a good host provider... I'm gonna try this time with blue host (first time) and I'll let you know.

I found this page tophosts.com googling around the net and I've been doing some reserach about the pages that come top.

    Hope you find it useful.

Thanks Tim... That's my heart's posture in entering a new season.. but it's exciting and challenging at the same time.

I just checked out Host Gator and they seem to have a great back-office support. I like their site builder app.

I'm fiddling around their online site builder and notice some lag. I'm living in an island and our internet connection is still in the stone ages compared to t he rest of the world... top speed at 2mps for home use as advertised, but it's rarely the actual facts.

Is it better to study offline HTML editors or fully go for online site builders? For my case at least...

    Thanks.

    I'd recommend easyspace.
I've got 3 domains there and they are online 99.9% of the time, also they have a phone number if you need tech help, unlike a lot of others!
