    Headlines are important and can make a massive difference( yawn , I hear you say)

    So is resonating with your audience ( has as much impact as saying a golf club has a grip)

    But check this out...really useful

    Go to the general section of this forum.
    SEE WHICH POSTS GET THE MOST VIEWS!!

    And on this forum you will see one post outshines all others, getting 100 views!!! "starting on a shoestring"....which shows you the headline that resonates best with the audience here.

    So if you want to create a product for a market, what better way than
    to look at a forum like this, and see which topics get the most views!!

    So go find a forum in your niche, and look at which questions get the most views...

    This is so true. I'm clicking around the threads and I find myself heading towards the titles that look interesting and grab my attention. The BluePrint from the Money Mentor goes through this very same topic and that is "Don't be Boring". The exciting things are the ones that are going to get the most views and are usually the topics that people can relate to.

    I realized this a while back. That studying the response to threads is an education in and of itself.

    A wise man I know says, "The market it always right!" It doesn't matter how clever you think you are or how ingenious your title is . . . it all come down to what is it that actually gets the response.

    The numbers and titles tell a lot of the story. For me though, you need to look a little deeper to get the whole picture. How long has the thread been around? Some get a great response immediately, others build over time.

    And, those that get a lot of response, generate more response. Sometimes people check it out because they notice that a lot of others have commented. Sometimes the threads take on a life that has more to do with the content of the responses than the headlines.

    The science comes in when we ask what elements can we control? Then study and test them. No need to reinvent the wheel on a lot of it, but there's always room for innovation that actually works.

    ...where the mountains/ water here refers to the market forces.

    OK guys, let me wade in with something I hope you'll all find interesting and useful.

    Who's hear of the Burpies Formula for copywriting.

    Well it was developed by a brilliant Long Form Copywriter called Brett McFall and is now used and taught by my friend Jeff - the Secret Copywriter. He call's himself this because he writes all the letters exclusively for the workshops that Tim, Paul and I teach on and he basically doesn't have time to do anything else.

    Now Jeff earlier this year wrote a letter for one of the workshops and so far this year it must be close to pulling in £2million/$3million - I know it sound unbelievable, but copy can do this sort of thing and it really is amazing.

    I've said it before but I am going to say it again just so that people fully realise the power in the words. The Copy Sells. The Product no matter how good only affects the returns rate.

    OK. Anyway, that's not why I am making a contribution today. That little intro was simply to provide a little bit of context for Jeff and his money making powers - by the way, Jeff used to be an Optician a spec dispenser and is a completely self taught copywriter - so don't any body tell me, "it's too hard!"

    Here goes with the system Jeff applies to each and every one of his letters. He uses the BURPIES formula and this is how it works:

    B ig Promise - develop in your headline and deliver a big fat, hairy promise. Include numbers and if you have them, make them very specific.

    U se Imagination - You can trigger the imagination with those little pictures that we often insert. Make them relevant and congruent throughout and do not forget to caption them. Every thing on that page has a purpose.

    R
    arity - Emphasise that perhaps only 100 customers can get access, or that will are pulling your offer in 24 hours and make sure you do so. Next time they will know and are more likely to buy.

    P oints - Jeff never destroys any of his trial headlines, which by the way he often spend a full week - yes 40 hours just working on headlines. Those that don't make it become benefit bullets and people will often buy just off one of those little bullets

    I rresistable Offer - the price, the bonus, the guarantee, the total package.

    E vidence - the more "live" like a screen cam video the better. Real people, real names, real places. Check out my academy

    and on the top right of the home page, you will see a short film a real people testifying and then on the testimony page, more videos of customers or big hitters who know me.

    S ign Offs - These are the PS. PSS. PSSSs at the end of the letter. And why are they there. They are there for the speed reader. And reemphasis the benefits.

    Use this in all your letters, building up enthusiasm and including your own personality and your gift and quality of your Long From writing will grow.

    Bretts copy system is a bit wider than just that formula Kevin...

    Such things as..

    The thing that Bretts own copy does so well and will be remembered for is the "conversational flow" or as sugarman called it the "slippery slope" - getting people to read.

    A number of details are important at each stage ..eg .Proof of value using apples to oranges comparison is an important issue in proving irresistible offer. Rarity can also fall completely flat unless there is a credible reason for limiting numbers , time or both... "reason why" ...in fact the reason can be bad logic, provided there is one.

    Finally , the close must focus on "why now"

    BTW - I agreed with Paul (and brett) to make a number of Bretts top end copy courses (and a few Wis places) available as prizes for october competition based on a copy quiz -

    Paul isnt responding to PM, is he around? Any ideas?

    If you look at the structure - Burpies SW is very much focussed on creating copy arising from an "ask" campaign, or to use jim edwards terminology "most burning issue" .. which is the USP claimed.

    The copy courses I was going to offer were bretts flaghip 8 DVD copy course - which go well beyond burpies.

    One of my blog comments doing the rounds,
    this very well may help a few of you out,
    it's a very simple technique for writing
    excellent headlines...

    To find your perfect headline.

    Go to Amazon.com

    On the drop down tab, select: Books

    In the search box, write in there your
    subject of choice, for example…

    Marketing.

    Look at the book titles on the first 2
    pages of the results.

    Make a note of any repetitive words
    used in the book titles and the number
    of times these occur.

    Now, start writing your own headlines
    using these power words.

    Aim to write 100 headlines initially. The
    first 20 will be easy, after that, you might
    start to struggle a little bit. This is a very
    good exercise for you though.

    When you have 100 headlines (at least) in
    front of you, choose the best one to work
    for your sales copy and make a note of the
    other headlines you prefer, which come in
    as your alternative top choices.

    These other headlines, you can now adapt
    to use for your key benefit * bullet points.

    I will add that of course it is not wise to
    ‘rob’ a book title for a headline, however,
    correct me if I am wrong…

    Book titles aren’t actually copyrighted,
    it’s just the contents that are.

    It goes without saying though, that it is
    always best to come up with an original
    headline and if one comes up with a real
    beauty….who know’s it could just go off
    like wildfire virally across the internet,
    which in turn will drive a massive return
    of traffic to the sales letter and product
    being offered on the original sales letter.

    I hope this advice helps a few of you out.

    It’s termed… ‘How to get your competition writing your headlines’

    One other little tip to add to this is to also scroll through the top article directories (obviously in the niche you’re looking for) and check out the most read articles in the last 60 days…
