I have submitted several sites to DMOZ and have had 2 accepted and a few rejected and have no idea the reason for either LOL The sites all had basically the same setup. I think it just is a matter of which DMOZ editor you happen to get that day.

Getting your website listed in the DMOZ directory in anything less than geologic time frames is next to impossible. Most SEOs submit their sites and then forget about ever getting listed. However, there is a way to guarantee that your site will be included in the DMOZ directory quickly: become a DMOZ editor for the category in which you have applied to have your website listed.

I think listing depends a lot upon your category. I had a site get listed within two weeks of submitting it. Needless to say, I was shocked. I'm guessing that particular category has an editor(s) that actually does editing, and not that many submissions.

By the way, I noticed two things after the site was listed. First of all, DMOZ made very little difference in that site's SERP (even after the link was indexed). Secondly, I started getting a bunch of new backlinks from other directories that appear to just be scraping content from the DMOZ. Obviously, those links were of no value at all.

I would submit your sites for inclusion, but don't lose any sleep over it if you don't get listed. DMOZ definitely doesn't have the link value it once did.

The thing is, DMOz only list the best websites and the ones which have the best content, the best everything so to speak.

It is not paramount to be listed in DMOZ but if you do manage to do it then it goes to show what a good website you have.

The are many perks to being listed by DMOZ, Yahoo, Google etc.... Whenever you request link exchanges there are quite a few people willing to pay you money for linking with them.

Also, if you ever come to selling your website, you'll get a better return if it is listed by them.

The best thing you can do is keep knocking at the door and hope they finally open it but don't wait around for that to happen and keep your site updated and very fresh

So it's much like EzineArticles and article approval dependent on how the editor is feeling at the time! Legends in their own minds perhaps ;-)

Two weeks must be a record. I was accepted once and it took them a year. Yes, don't lose any sleep over it but it really does have some benefits and unique traffic will increase a bit slowly over time. They supply information to many of the small search engines as well as their information is used for other places which obtain their information as authorative. So, when you feel your site is perfect with it's meta tags (won't be changed) and optimized to the best that you can, just submit it and forget it by working on other more immediate product things that generate traffic. I think it helps with approvals if you get some high ranking sites to point to your site by the time they look at it but that is just a guess. I think they inform you if you are rejected too. Also, you can try to become an editor as I have heard of people succeeding doing this but I was rejected when I tried to apply for it once so don't know what their requirements really are for this as I had the background to be one in the category I applied for. GOOD LUCK.

Me too, I got one website listed with DMOZ. It took well over one year to get listed. My website has a lot of unique content although it is a website for selling a service.

Just submit your website and wait and see.

If you don't get listed it is not a drama and if you get listed, don't expect too much from the listing.

    Hey guys,

I just wanted to send an update on thw whole DMoz discussion I started at the beginning of the month.

Basically, the day after I posted this thread, I went over to dmoz and applied for an editor position. That way, I can get my site listed faster within Dmoz.

Well, couple of days ago, which in turn is about 2-3 weeks after I applied, I received an email that I was APPROVED to be one of the editors.

How did I get the gig you might ask?

    1. I answered everything they asked to a tee. I gave them everything they wanted. Also, i made sure that my application was NOT self serving, that I'm actually there to help. Believe me, they need it more than ever.

    2. I'm not sure if this was a factor but I think it might because I submitted an application over a year ago and did not get anywhere with it (same category). I think that because I submitted at the begining of the year, I was able to get accepted. Why? Because everyone has a renewed sense of urgency, rebuilding their business, updating sites, etc.

    3. I targeted a VERY SPECIFIC category. I drilled down to a small category. I think that was a big factor. Not only because most bigger categories already have an editor but the smaller category will be less work for you. Just to give you an idea, after I logged in to my niche category, there were over 300 submissions there. Lots of work!

    4. As you can see, you will have to weight the pros and cons. But I think if you want to become an editor, that's my advice.

This is exciting. I really appreciate the information. In order to be in a position to approve your own site, you would have to have a category where you would list your site. Also, this is very valuable to the website community. I too was rejected and never tried to become an editor again so I guess I could try. I went there the other day and the category I chose said it didn't need editors at this time. What do you recommend for this? I sincerely would love to work with them as the provide information for MANY search engines and is a good position to have even though they don't pay you.

    Thanks again for the info.

Could someone give me some pointers on what type of profile I write , when a website ask you to give a profile? Is it about me or the business? Appreciate your answers.
