DMOZ is dead, we should all just ignore it and hope they get the hint. Seriously do you ever go to Dmoz to look something up other then to see if your site is listed or a competitor. No one uses the directory and it is run by a group of zealots that are having a hard time coming to grip with the fact that they are no longer relevant. With Google rolling out Caffeine the directories are going to be even less important due to the real time indexing and news related factors that are going to be part of the ranking algorithm.

Hi, I'm actually a DMOZ editor for a small regional section.
I would say if you want to get in DON'T keep submitting!
But do try and e-mail the editor of that category.
You can usually find their e-mail address on their DMOZ biog site.
If there is no editor for the category you want to submit to just go up a level until you find an editor.
    Or become an editor!!!

It has been my understanding and experience that DMOZ is the grand-daddy of all directories (not a search engine) and supplies information to many, many smaller directories and some directories do not even have any listings UNLESS obtained from DMOZ. The issue is to all of us website owners who end up waiting as long as a year to be approved which is a bit frustrating. It took a site that I owned over 1 year for approval. I applied to be an editor as they needed someone for it but for some reason, they did not accept me(I had mega knowledge and experience too!) and they DID NOT tell me why. They might need some help with management of their company but the content of their directory still remains good, I believe. If you have an answer about how to be listed sooner, then I would be interested. Based on my experience, I don't believe applying to be an editor is necessarily the answer either.

    Good Luck.

I have heard that they like a site with visible contact information including phone numbers and a physical mailing address. That of course is one little aspect.

Buy an expired domain name that has a DMOZ listing, do a redirect to your domain and milk that DMOZ juice for as long as you can.

Or resurrect the old domain with fresh content and, of course, anchor text backlinks to your new domain.

Sometimes you can find ones that have still held their PR. Even if it's a 1 or 2, still worth it.

DMOZ seems doomed now and completely impractical time-wise. The $299 Yahoo Directory option (now an annual fee) is the better option for a decent money site.

I've had sites ranked in DMOZ. It is a slow process. I've ranked sites #1 on Google for their keywords that were ranked in DMOZ and sites not ranked in DMOZ. Focus on much more than just being included in DMOZ.

I tried a couple of times to get in DMOZ, but failed. I don't know what I was doing wrong. However, just because a site is not listed in DMOZ, does not mean it can't have top rankings in google.

I've read conflicting things about what being listed in the dmoz will do for you. I have submitted multiple sites and it just seems like I never hear back from them. No denials, acceptances or status updates. I have seen a few places that guarantee dmoz listings in 14 days, but they charge a lot. From reading the post, it doesn't sound as important as I thought, but it would be nice to have my sites listed.

I submitted several months ago and no reply or listing. What was the shortest time someone most recently submitted to DMOZ AND got listed? - This would be very interesting to know.

What did I do to get my gardening site listed in DMOZ? I followed the rules and listed it in the correct category. IT's been there for over 5 years. Get some traffic from it.

You just need to have great content and make sure you apply to the right directory. I applied for one of my sites about Peru and it got rejected because I had applied for the general Peru category and I should have applied for the Northern Peru category.

If your site is heavily affiliate related it is unlikely to get listed.

Guzie is bang on. DMOZ and Yahoo still the two biggest by a long way in terms of ILQ score with both 5 million +. One paid (Yahoo) the other free...but you have to follow the rules and be serious.
