Default Has Anyone Here Been Able to Get Listed in Dmoz?

    Hi there,

I have been trying to get listed in dmoz for quite a while without much success.

So, I wanted to ask if anyone here got a listing in dmoz. If you have, would you mind sharing with rest of us how you did it?

Thank you. I would greatly appreciate it.

From what I've seen, Dmoz is more inclined to list a website that has been around for roughly 1 year and has some authority, i.e. page rank.

I've never been able to get my site listed

I've heard of people that have registered as Dmoz moderators for their niche and added their own websites, haha! Although this is harder than it sounds!

Personally I really could care less about getting listed in Dmoz...but when I was first starting out I got sites listed there..

Few things to keep in mind:

-These are human volunteer editors. The place is a spam magnet...and it all has to be sorted out
-Follow the guidelines they lay out to a tee
-Don"t continually resubmit...they consider you a spammer and toss you out.

I really would put too much worry into getting listed with them...there are plenty of other ways to drive traffic to your sites.

yeah, I understand. To me, it's not the end of the world if I don't get a listing in there. However, I think it does help quite nicely to get listed in there.

I have been listed in DMOZ. It took over a year of waiting for them to get to my site but it was worth it as many of the search engines use the information reported there and also, of course, others. I did not find any way to rush things. I too had heard of others becoming moderators but when I applied, I was rejected. They are finicky so yes, follow the listing requirements to a 'to.

    GOOD LUCK

Don't focus too much on DMOZ. Just submit your website and let it be.

    If it get listed, great.

If not, submit again in ONE YEAR'S time.

There are many other web directories that work just as good as DMOZ.

agree with other fellows above. DMOZ listed is great but not primary thing for a website to be known by mass. Do not sweat to much to get listed there, still worth trying tough.

I have some sites listed there for years, but getting in now is difficult. You really need to take the time to submit properly or the editors click delete. You also have to have a high quality site.

The thing is, DMOz only list the best websites and the ones which have the best content, the best everything so to speak.

It is not paramount to be listed in DMOZ but if you do manage to do it then it goes to show what a good website you have.

The are many perks to being listed by DMOZ, Yahoo, Google etc.... Whenever you request link exchanges there are quite a few people willing to pay you money for linking with them.

Also, if you ever come to selling your website, you'll get a better return if it is listed by them.

The best thing you can do is keep knocking at the door and hope they finally open it but don't wait around for that to happen and keep your site updated and very fresh

Buy an expired domain name that has a DMOZ listing, do a redirect to your domain and milk that DMOZ juice for as long as you can.

Or resurrect the old domain with fresh content and, of course, anchor text backlinks to your new domain.

Sometimes you can find ones that have still held their PR. Even if it's a 1 or 2, still worth it.

    Ashton,

The thing is, you have to work quick on building the site back up to it's original best before DMOZ does it's monthly checks as it has been known that DMOZ will remove your listing after the sale as gone through.

    Working quickly is the key

I'm a Dmoz editor. I also tried to submit my website but waited forever. I mean we are very swamep with work and more websites come in every day. So I decided to try and become an editor. I checked how other sites looked that made it into Dmoz and did the same. You just have to be honest. I gave them my internet experience like Mysql, html, java as well as my experience I had in the field I was in eg. kitchens. I know tons about it and I let them know that. I wouldn't say I do seo as this will harm Dmoz rather than build it. They can quickly see if you're a fly by night or if you know what you're talking about. So become a Dmoz editor and you can submit all the sites you want. As long as you dont' favour your site above others and read the guidlines before adding your own site.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback. Actually, coming from an Dmoz editor means a lot. I actually tried becoming an editor while back, submitted the application with everything that was requested and never got the answer.

If you could tell me how you became an editor,I would appreciate that as well.

Dmoz, I have tried for the last year, but with no result. Life is too short to keep pushing at a closed door, but if it opens, my request is ready to be let in

hahahaha.... DMOZ.... pain of everybody that wants to do well on search engines. Well i have a site at positon 3 in google for serach term dance vinyl and that does not show in DMOZ.

However i have had a site in DMOZ but had to cheat. I owned a differant dance vinyl store and became a moderator for musicmoz which i could sync with dmoz. Surely enough it became listed in DMOZ.

DMOZ usually takes very long duration for reviewing your website i.e normally above 1 year. Better to think about other high value websites.
