I have found that Yahoo is more difficult to rank in than Google.
It seems to take Yahoo much longer to get indexing and rankings to pages / terms. Any one agree or disagree with this?

I would disagree quite vehemently based on my experience. I'm trying to rank in Google in the top 100 for my keyword, but i've barely been able to get higher than 195, and today I found that i'm below 500 now (and all my backlinks seemed to have disappeared

. What always puzzled me is that postings to socialbookmarking services and ezine articles ranked high than the actual site !
But with Yahoo, I did a broad search for my keyword and it was #1 out of about 1.3 million sites ! However, I've noticed that it has dropped quite significantly, yet when I do a search for "my keyword", it's still number 1. Go figure. I thought it was just a local thing, but i got my brother in Canada to do the same search and it still came up as #1.
I think I'm giving up with Google for my site, as it just seems too hard to get on to the first page with my keyword, even though all my research (and confirmed by very experienced IMs) would say that I should be ranking a LOT higher than what I am. In the end, Google is always right.
i'm going to start a new website targeting a new microniche. It's too frustrating for me right now with my previous keyword

Patience and persistance is always needed for any search engines AND constistancy. Usually the reason you drop in any search engine is because you have stopped doing the things that got you there in the first place. Unfortunately it takes work to stay in a higher ranking for some niches because of competition. Everytime someone edges you out of a position you have to do more work to gain it back again. That is just the nature of the beast.

Another reason you may drop in ranking is by trying to take shortcuts. Often we look for ways to automate our work but don't take into consideration the effects it will have with Google. Most submission type software does leave a footprint that allows Google to see that it was not manually submitted. Google does not like this so the act accordingly.

I can get to #1 in Yahoo for a keyword before I appear in the top 200 of Google for the same keyword.
Granted, I'd get more traffic at the #1 spot in Google for the keyword, but my traffic from Yahoo isn't to be sneezed at either.
Hi,
... and I would say: Who cares for YAHOO?!!!

And in Google Webmaster's tool there's a section

You suffer for sure a penalty from Google and you have to find out. Take a look at your script or anything that can upset Google. Obviously your homepage is causing it as it will not rank. Investigate your backlinks and see if some are from banned sites or similar. I`m sure your site will jump miles up when you figure it out.

It also looks like you are experiencing the "Google dance" LOL
Anytime a site becomes aggressive in doing backlinks, and especially if you quit building links for a few days afterwards, Google will drop you in the page ranks or you will dissapear alltogether. Do not panic. It is a normal process. After a week or two you should resurface and often in a higher position. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will sort out. (unless you are doing something that breaks the Google TOS)
Your social sites and articles will almost always perform better than your own site because those sites have a very high PR and rank well in Google's quality index. That is not a bad thing. It is one of the reasons we all do articles and social bookmarking in the first place. It is easier to rank for our keywords within those sites and bring your link to the first page.

As much as I am not a microsoft fan, ...Bing has been really kind to me. They've been giving me great placement.
Me too, bing is my 2nd best traffic source after Google. I have no clue what yahoo is looking for.

My personal experience is that it varies by niche. A couple of the niches I'm in it's easier to get a high ranking on Yahoo than Google, and it's the opposite for others.
However, it also has been my experience that I can get more traffic being on the 2nd page of Google than I can being #1 on Yahoo.
Yahoo should never be ignored as it is still a great source of free traffic and if its free its good. I have noticed that if you have your main keyword phrase once in the title, desciption and url you should get on the first page without any problems.
I also found it took longer with Yahoo to get ranking but when it kicked in Yahhoo it went to a higher ranking

Hahaha. The premise of this is hillarious...
Think about it for a moment. There are 10 web pages in Google's top 10 for every search. In Yahoo, there are also 10 web pages in it's top 10 for each search. In Google's top 100, there are 100 web pages, just as there are in Yahoo. TIt is 100% equally difficult/easy to rank in each engine.

OK, technicalities aside, that does not mean it's as easy for a new site to break into Yahoo as it is to breal into Google. Yahoo has always been slower at almost everything than Google, and that includes indexing, ranking, algorithm improvements, etc.
But I agree that Yahoo is worthwhile, which is one reason I don't pay too much attention to whether comments on a blog are NoFollow or DoFollow (Yahoo appears to give more weight than Google to NoFollow links -

). A good blog comment give direct traffic, can lead to further links from the blogger or the blog's other readers and the links carry some value, especially at Yahoo.

I've have to disagree but it can be contrary at times I rank high in google but can get more traffic from yahoo. As far as indexing i believe you're doing it the wrong way. Don't submit your site for indexing or you'll be waiting forever there is an easier way just do a search on yahoo for your site once its posted if it doesn't come up in the search yahoo will come searching for it.

Although my site has been only submitted 4 weeks into the search engines, yahoo showed up first, google next and im still waiting for bing to even index my site!
yahoo is def giving me better results than google
Anyone any idea about why my site isnt getting picked up by bing?
My new site was indexed by Yahoo and Google fairly quickly. However, my other sites tend to rank better in Google. However, it's probably because I haven't really attempted to optimize any of my sites for Yahoo.
Some people say it's easier to get to the top of Bing then the others.
One tip which can help for Yahoo is to not neglect nofollow links. This parameter was designed by Google and other search engines don't pay much attention to it. So if you make a comment on a blog that uses a nofollow link Yahoo and Bing will still count it.
In terms of shear back links Google is much harder then all other search engines, with that said however some factors as far as on-page seo and domain play a bigger factor in yahoo and bing then Google.
