I am known throughout the profession as " Nurse Carol " and my first love has always been in patient comfort and pain relief.
I have been a Health Care Professional for almost 47 years, spending many of those years as a Ward Sister and also taking charge of hospitals. I have worked in over 40 hospitals both as a permanent member of staff or on an Agency basis wherever my skills have been needed.
The things that make me go back, day after day, to look after people who are scared, in pain and need to know that however bad their situation, us nurses are there, is not the big expensive shiny machines, but the puffing of the pillows, holding someone’s hand, or reassuring a relative. In other words, I am there to make sure the patient receives 100% of my time, dedication and care.
I have seen life in all its glory and also in its sadness. From the beginning of a new life delivering babies, hearing the first cry of a child, the gladness in the voice of a mother or father, right through to the end, where I have provided comfort for an ailing relative. Now, how many people can say they have a job that goes from the beginning of life, right through to the end?
I lost my eldest daughter Georgie, when she was just 18 Hodgkins disease I even laid her out so I do feel I have much to offer to others in the way of empathy. I have brought up 10 children - 5 of my own and 5 step children - and what fun it is!
I am a mature woman, but active and fit with my own teeth & whereas I draw the line at bungee jumping I have been known to do the odd sky dive. I am warm blooded, cold footed sentimental fully paid up member of the human race.
A Health care professional by character, sky diver by accident, workaholic by inclination, collector of single socks and not yet passed my “sell by” date.
